Outreach Projects
San Antonio 2006
See photos from our trip below!
Over two weeks the ELCA Youth Gathering offered 40,000 youth and adults
many unbelievable days that will never be forgotten! A total of 15,000 participated
in the first week, and more than 24,000 participated during the second week
when we were there.
The gathering featured activities built around the theme “Cruzando: Journey
with Jesus.” Each day began and ended in the Alamodome featuring guest speakers,
bible studies, music, dance, drama, and videos.
Between the times of the mass gatherings each day, we participated in
workshops and fun and fellowship at the interaction center. All throughout
the week, participants could drop their ten dollar bills for the “Hamilton’s
for Hunger campaign, which raised more than $530,000 for World Hunger Appeal.
Also, about $100,000 in gift cards was collected as an “in-kind” offering
to benefit San Antonio organizations, and worship offerings totaled $580,000
for both weeks. One day was spent touring the city including the Alamo,
and a boat ride along the River Walk. The last night we celebrated
with all of the gathering participants with a giant Fiesta and fireworks.
Our week ended with Sunday morning worship led by the Rev.Mark Hanson,
presiding bishop of the ELCA. His message to the youth was to go beyond their
comfort zones, to serve the world, and to make a difference, he thanked us
for being apart of a community that matters.
Along with all of our baggage and souvenirs we carried home all
the messages that we heard, excited to share them all with you. Please join
us on September 17th at all three services as we celebrate and share this
amazing experience at the 2006 ELCA National Youth Gathering.
As always, thank you for all of the love, support, and prayers that you
give to the youth at King of Kings.
