About Our Youth
Our Mission Statement:
"To encourage and nurture our youths' personal
relationship
with Christ and the church community through
Christian fellowship and service to others."
We are working toward this goal by investing
in our future - our children. We support
and encourage all children and youth to participate in the many
faith-based programs at King of Kings, all geared toward doing God's
work in our community and the world.
Nursery Care
Nursery care is provided on Sunday mornings for children birth to five
years of age in a welcoming and safe environment.
Sunday School
Sunday School
is offered to children ages three through 12th grade.
Classes for the various age groups are led by enthusiastic educators
offering creative teaching methods involving storytelling, crafts,
music, cooking, and science using the Sparks faith-based curriculum.
Faith Stepping Stones
FSS is a
faith-journey ministry involving 10 stepping stones which equip parents
and guardians to share their faith with their youngsters from the
cradle through high school. These steps include:
1. Baptism
2. "Let the children come to me" (Entering Sunday School) - Age
three
3. "Prayer Tents" (Learning about prayer) - Kindergarten
4. First Holy Communion - 1st grade
5. "Receiving God's Word" (Discovering what's in the Bible) - 3rd
grade
6. "Stand Up, Sit Down" (Why we worship) - 5th grade
7. "Ready, Set, Go!" - Confirmation classes (KCY) begin - 7th
grade
8. "A New Beginning" (Confirmation/Affirmation of Faith) - 9th
grade
9. "Keys to Forgiveness" (Power/Responsibility of the Keys) -
10th grade
10. "Roots & Wings" (Graduation) - 12th grade
Children in Worship
Whether
children attend the 8:15 a.m. or 10:45 a.m. Sunday worship, there is an
opportunity for them to experience a time focused at their level.
At the early service, they can hear a Children's Sermon and at
the late service Children's Church is available to children ages three
through seven. This special program allows youngsters to leave
worship and learn about God on their own level of education.
Music
Children in grades two through six are invited to participate in our
Hand Chimes Choir. This group rehearses on Sundays at noon
and plays during worship on a regular basis.
Junior Youth
Junior
Youth is comprised of children in the 4th through 6th grades and offers
an opportunity for youngsters to grow spiritually while serving the
congregation and members of their community. Monthly and seasonal
activities such as sledding, Earth Day clean-up, making applesauce for
the Thanksgiving Dinner, Friday Night Fun, and Christmas caroling make
learning and serving others fun for this adventurous group.
KCY (Kings Confirmation Youth)
KCY consists of young people in the 7th
through 9th grades. This fun-filled group is eager to learn more about
God and are seeking ways to develop their spiritual lives. The three
year confirmation program consists of Sunday afternoon classes, Sunday
School, weekend retreats, and service ministry events such as
participation in the annual CROP Walk and serving meals at the Rescue
Mission. These youth also participate in fun activies such as bowling,
snow tubing, pool parties, and summer Confirmation Camp.
Senior Youth
Senior High Youth participants focus on living a faith-based life
during the trying periods of high school, endeavoring to build a strong
foundation for life's future events. The senior youth attend regional
and national youth gatherings, ministry events, weekend retreats, Bible
studies, Sunday School, and assist as junior guides for the KCY group.
Fun activities such as apple pie baking, a Super Bowl party, and an
annual volleyball marathon are also on the list of things enjoyed by
this maturing group of young adults.
Vacation Bible School
VBS is a
summer program open to both King of Kings' youth and members of the
community. For one week each summer, children ages three through 12 are
invited to participate in a multi-sensory experience involving a
faith-based curriculum that includes crafts, games, songs,
storytelling, and other fun, educational events.
